| American conductor Nicholas G. M. Ross has been praised for
his imaginative programming and engaging leadership. Creative
programming and non-traditional approaches to performance are a
trademark of Ross’ career. In his four-year tenure as Music
Director and Conductor of the Hunter Symphony in New York City, Ross
has been credited with the rejuvenation of the ensemble, programming a
diverse array of literature ranging from works in intimate chamber
settings to large-scale orchestral and choral masterpieces. Demonstrating an affinity for the operatic stage, Ross returned for a third year to the conducting staff of the Glimmerglass Opera Company as an Assistant and Cover Conductor for the 2007 Festival Season production of the Gluck/Berlioz Orphée et Euridice. In the 2007/2008 Season, he was Cover Conductor of Massenet’s Cendrillon and Verdi’s Falstaff at New York City Opera. He will also be Music director of a new production of West Side Story at John Jay College in New York City. Past conducting posts include being Conducting Assistant with the Phoenix Symphony, Cover Conductor for the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Music Director of the Onondaga Civic Symphony Orchestra in Syracuse New York, and Assistant Conductor of the Syracuse Symphony Youth Orchestra. In the spring of 2004 Ross appeared as guest conductor with the Harbin Symphony Orchestra in Harbin, China in performances of Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”, Copland’s “Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo”, and Rossini’s Overture to L’Italiana in Algeri. Additional guest conducting appearances include performances with the Arizona State University Lyric Opera Theater, the Fingerlakes Symphony Orchestra in Canandaigua, New York, the Syracuse University Symphony Orchestra and the Society of Composers Festival in Tempe, Arizona. In addition to his conducting career, Ross maintains an active performance schedule as a violinist performing chamber and symphonic repertoire throughout the United States. 7/22/08 |
