| Mezzo soprano Margaret Peterson is
fast becoming one of opera’s bright young talents, known for her
superior acting and musicality. Last fall, Margaret made her Asia debut
at the Macau International Festival of Music as the Second Witch in
Dido and Aeneas, where she also covered the title role. Earlier in the
season, Margaret performed the Marquise in Daughter of the Regiment at
The Yard in Martha’s Vineyard, as well as Mercedes in Carmen at
Connecticut Grand Opera and Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with
DiCapo Opera in New York. This season’s highlights included Margeret’s
Carnegie Hall debut with Mid America Productions as the alto soloist in
Gonzalez’s Misa Azteca. Margaret will be featured in the Festival of
the Voice’s Summer 2011 season, singing Vivaldi’s Gloria along with
several gala concerts. The Festival is in Pheonicia New York. During the 2009-2010 season Margaret was a resident artist with Dicapo Opera, where she was seen in Tobias Picker’s Emmeline in New York City in September followed by an international live broadcast in Hungary in November. Margaret also sang Maddalena in the DiCapo’s mainstage production of Verdi’s Rigoletto. In December 2009 she performed Cleone in Manhattan School of Music’s much-anticipated Penelope by Faure. While still a student at MSM, Margaret was selected as a featured performer in a Broadway Gala concert under the baton of Paul Gemignani and with direction by Lonny Price in January 2010, alongside Broadway artists such as Zoe Caldwell, Jenn Colella, Marian Mazzie and Donna McKechnie. Previous performance credits include Estelle in the New York Premiere of Later the Same Evening which she recorded for Albany Records, the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas, Jan in The Golden Gate, and Sara in Binding of Isaac. Margaret was also lauded by the press for her portrayal of the Grandmother in Griffelkin at MSM. She is also a past recipient of New Jersey Opera’s Orvis Opera Award and the 2006 ASCAP Award. Margaret’s concert credits extend from Duruflé’s Requiem with the New Jersey Summit Music Festival to a premiere of MSM President Robert Sirota’s Holy Women. She has been invited to sing in gala concerts at New York’s Lincoln Center Library, the Zurich Opera House in Switzerland, and at various venues across the United States. Equally at home in musical theater, Margaret has performed the roles of Edwin Drood in The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Cinderella in Into the Woods, as well as the American Musical Theater Ensemble's Defying Gravity, a Stephen Schwartz Review, and George & Lenny, Bernstein and Gershwin in Review. Margaret holds a Bachelor's and Master’s Degree from Manhattan School of Music. 6/27/11 |
