Maestro Paul Nadler has distinguished himself as one of the world’s most exciting and respected symphonic and operatic conductors.  Maestro Nadler will conduct Die Zauberflöte at the Metropolitan Opera in 2010. He returns to Opera de Montréal for the fourth season to lead performances of Puccini’s Tosca.  He also will return to Romania to conduct performances with the Iasi and Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestras.  

Since his debut in 1989 he has led over 60 performances at the Metropolitan Opera, conducting stars such as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Karita Mattila, Bryn Terfel, Anna Netrebko, Renée Fleming, Ramon Vargas and Ben Heppner.  In concert he has collaborated with renowned soloists such as Garrick Ohlsson, Emmanuel Ax, Misha Dichter, Elmar Olivera, and Glenn Dicterow. Maestro Nadler is Music Director Emeritus of the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Filarmonica de Stat Iasi (Romania).

In recent seasons at the Met, Maestro Nadler has led all star casts of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin (Renee Fleming, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, and Ramon Vargas) and Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet (Anna Netrebko and Matthew Polenzani). His schedule also included Strauss’s Salome in the newly formed Opera Cleveland’s inaugural season, conducting the orchestras of Iasi, Craiova, and Bucharest (Romania), and debuting at the National Opera of Bucharest in Carmen and Don Giovanni. He made his debut as guest conductor with an opera gala for Opera de Montréal and conducted concerts with the Israeli Chamber Orchestra.

Last season, Maestro Nadler returned to Romania to conduct their leading orchestras. In addition to his continuing activities at the Metropolitan Opera, he also returned to Opera de Montreal for its annual opera gala, as well as performances of Cosi fan tutte.

Highlights of recent seasons include appearances with the Orquestra de Navarra (Spain), the Verbier Festival (Switzerland), Augsburg Symphony, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, Romanian National Radio Orchestra, and the Timisiora Philharmonic (Romania). Symphonic credits also include performances with the Grant Park (Chicago) Music Festival, New World Symphony, Chautauqua Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic, Victoria Symphony, Jerusalem Symphony, and Orchestra Carlos Chavez (Mexico), among others.

Maestro Nadler’s diverse repertoire at the Metropolitan Opera includes Rigoletto, Un Ballo in Maschera, Aida, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Tannhäuser, Don Carlo, Andrea Chenier, La Traviata, Carmen, Fidelio, Eugene Onegin, and Stravinsky’s triple bill: Le Sacre du Printemps / Le Rossignol / Oedipus Rex. He also was chosen to lead performances of the Met’s National Council Competition.

Operatic credits include performances with Indianapolis Opera, Utah Opera, Calgary Opera, Florentine Opera, Minnesota Opera, Syracuse Opera, and Orlando Opera and Glimmerglass Opera. Internationally, Paul has conducted the Hong Kong Opera, as well as engagements in Plovdiv, Varna, and Russe (Bulgaria). In December 2002, Maestro Nadler conducted at the Kennedy Center Awards ceremony in honor of his colleague James Levine.
Co-director/founder of the International Vocal Arts Institute, Maestro Nadler returns each summer to the prestigious professional workshop. Early in his career he was named winner of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra Conductor Competition. In 1974 Maestro Nadler founded the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, where he remained as Music Director and Conductor through 1983. He returned to the Chamber Orchestra this past season to lead a celebration of the 35th season of the orchestra.
