JAMES C. HARWOOD, President
HARWOOD MANAGEMENT GROUP INC.
Jim Harwood is President and CEO of HARWOOD MANAGEMENT GROUP, INC. , a diversified
‘Arts Management’ firm encompassing multiple aspects of the performing arts
industry. The primary focus of the company is building and managing
the careers of a talented roster of artists: some forty professional
singers, ten conductors, and three stage directors. Our major commitment
to the artists on our rosters comes in the form of career guidance, helping
our artists find the best avenue to self-expression and artistic fulfillment.
He represents this roster of artists to arts organizations & producers
-- making casting suggestions, submitting appropriate candidates for auditions,
arranging auditions, negotiating contracts, and servicing contracts by co-ordinating
engagement schedules, housing, transportation, etc. In addition his
management company does PR for these artists, including a well established
website - www.harwood-management.com - which includes headshots and some
sound-bites, developing mailing lists for individual artists and for the
company, writing and distributing individual Press Releases, and a quarterly
Artists Newletter which is emailed to all the companies (opera, orchestra)
in the USA, Canada and worldwide. Other areas of endeavour include
contracting musicians, private career development consultations, educational
endeavours, clinics, seminars, work-shops and Arts Festivals. The rapid
growth of Harwood Management can be attributed to innovative techniques,
creative marketing and the ability to attract talented artists.
In addition, his company has a separate division HIRSCH ENTERTAINMENT, INC.
which works with approximately 100 Broadway/cross-over artists. In
a similar fashion we recommend artists for auditions for Broadway Shows,
negotiate contracts and concentrate on developing their careers with an emphasis
on steady employment. At present we have about several singers working
on Broadway.
As a musician Jim has performed as a member of the Hamilton Canada and Springfield
Mass. Orchestras. He has appeared throughout the US with the Boston
Pops and Symphony Orchestra, toured with Chuck Mangione, played with Temptations
and Supremes, did pit work on Broadway, played chamber music in NYC including
with Jerome Lowenthal and many others. He also had the Jim Harwood
Big Band in NYC and surrounding areas for 12 years. He founded the Westchester
Youth Jazz Band where he discovered Vanessa Williams. He also founded
the Canadian Brass.
Jim Harwood graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of
Music, as well as a Degree in Music Education, and he holds a a Master’s
Degree in woodwind performance from the New England Conservatory (Boston).
