|Deemed “a fine singer,” Cuban-Puerto Rican lyric
soprano, Megan Barrera has
“a warm voice [with] off an expansive top.” Ms. Barrera is a native of Miami, FL, but she has sung a number of leading roles in the United States and in Europe, including Musetta in Puccini’s La bohéme and Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto. She was recently praised for her portrayal of Donna Anna with the Miami Summer Music Festival.
Ms. Barrera is most known for her “colorful acting and great personality” in the role of Norina with Miami Lyric Opera and Wichita Grand Opera. Ms. Barrera has also performed other operatic roles such as Pamina in Die Zauberflötewith Festival South and OpéraLouisiane. She made her Natchez Festival of Music début, singing the role of Lilli in Porter’s Kiss Me Kate.
In 2015, she was a recipient of an encouragement award from the Saint Petersburg Opera Guild Competition, and a she was Semi-Finalist at the Marcello Giordani International Voice Competition. She has also been awarded a grant from the Anna Sosenko Assist Trust.
Ms. Barrera holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree and a Master of Music Degree from Louisiana State University. She completed her Bachelor of Music Degree at the University of Miami where she was a recipient of the Bertha Foster Annual Tuition Scholarship.
