| After gaining a distinction in
his Postgraduate Advanced Diploma at Trinity College of Music, Biraj
spent 4 years as a member of the all professional choir of St George’s
Chapel, Windsor Castle where he performed in many royal events.
Highlights include the wedding of HRH Prince of Wales and the Duchess
of Wessex in 2005, the live televised broadcast of the Queen’s 80th
Birthday, BBC documentary ‘The Queen’s Castle’, a segment on ‘Good
Morning America’ in 2005, and many recordings with choir on the Naxos
and Delphian labels. He has also performed with the leading choirs and
vocal consorts in the UK and USA including the National Chorale, the
Tiffany Consort, the Choirs of St. Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster
Abbey, the St.Thomas Choir of Men and Boys and the American Classical
Orchestra. Equally at home as a soloist, Biraj has performed all the major oratorios including the Messiah, the B minor Mass, the St. Matthew Passion, the St John Passion, the Christmas Oratorio, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Charpentier’s Te Deum, Purcell’s Ode on St Cecilia’s Day, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Stabat Mater, Saint Saens Christmas Oratorio and Handel’s L’allegro , Il penseroso ed Il moderato. Opera credits include Orpheus (Opera Valladoilid), Oberon (Opera Minima), Athamas (British Youth Opera), Ottone (Trinity College of Music), Oronte (Manhattan School of Music) and Didymus (Morley Opera). He has performed in masterclasses with some of the most eminent names in Baroque music including Della Jones, James Bowman, Emma Kirkby and the choirs of Ex Cathedra and I Fagiolini. Young artist’s programs include in British Youth Opera (2004), the Britten Pears School for Advanced Studies (2004) and the Dartington International Summer Festival (2002 and 2005). Future performances include the role of Secrecy in Purcell’s Fairy Queen with the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute and the title role of Silla in the North American Premiere of Handel’s Silla with the Bay Area Opera Theatre Institute in July 2007. 06/18/07 |
