Lynne Abeles
Soprano

LYNNE ABELES, soprano, is quickly establishing herself as a new and exciting presence on the stage.  A consummate actress, Lynne receives much praise for her commitment to character and text.  She spent the Summer in Tel Aviv attending the Israeli Vocal Arts Institute.  She began the Fall season in New York as Mary in Ward’s The Crucible with Dicapo Opera Theatre.  She repeats performances of the role in Hungary in November.

In the 07/08 Season, she sang the role of Musetta at Jacksonville Lyric Opera and has also sung with the Bronx Opera, where she covered the role of “Frasquita” in Carmen.  Lynne learned the role of “Musetta” under the tutelage of the famed soprano, Martina Arroyo. Currently, Lynne is a resident artist with Dicapo Opera Theatre, where she recently covered the role of “Madame Goldentrill” in Mozart’s The Impresario, was a featured soloist in their Holiday Opera Concert, and sang “Sister 1” in Vittorio Gianni’s Beauty and the Beast. At the last minute she learned and performed Clorinda in La Cenerentola with Dicapo Opera Theatre..

She has studied drama at Terry Schreiber Studios in NYC and majored in theatre at the University of Southern California, before transferring to the University of Miami, where she received a B.A. in Vocal Performance and a minor in theatre.  At UM, she performed the roles of “Giannetta” in Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love, “Lauretta” in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, “Yum Yum” in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado and “Second Lady” in Mozart’s The Magic Flute.

Lynne is from South Florida, and comes from an extremely artistic family.  Her brothers are actors and musicians, her mother is a voice teacher, and her father is an accomplished pianist.  While living in Florida she sang with Miami’s critically acclaimed Seraphic Fire, a fully professional chamber ensemble specializing in both early and modern music.

Lynne is also a dancer, and has studied ballet since childhood along with ballroom dance in recent years.  Given her dance and theatre experience, it is no surprise that Lynne also has a love of musical theatre.  She recently participated in a reading of The Man in the Iron Mask at the Emerging Artists Theater in NYC.  Previous roles include: “June” in Gypsy, “Frenchy” in Grease, “Peggy Sawyer” in 42nd Street, and the “Baker’s Wife” in Into the Woods.

Lynne is a student of Katherine Johnson.
